P Russon & Sons was established in 1973 by Peter Russon, a dairy farmer at the newly built New Farm, Burton. Prior to that, Peter’s father, William Russon, farmed at South Carlton. In the late 1970’s, Peter diversified into agricultural contracting. During the 1980’s, he was one of the pioneers of maize growing, which led to the development of his contracting business, firstly with maize drilling and later expanding to cover a complete forage crop establishment and harvesting operation. His son, Tim Russon, has continued to develop and expand the contracting side of the business into the large progressive operation it is today.
Today the company’s main business is in providing a contracting service to farmers and landowners throughout Lincolnshire and the surrounding counties. Although a wide range of services are now offered, the main focus remains a complete forage operation, from sowing to clamping. This is rapidly expanding with the advent of anaerobic digestion plants in the region.
The company still farms 136 ha. of its own land, growing wheat, barley, oil-seed rape and forage maize. Alongside this, Tim runs a beef suckler herd at New Farm, Burton.
With the increasing numbers of AD plants in the area, P Russon & Sons will continue to provide a diverse range of services to this industry, whilst maintaining and expanding a client base amongst farmers in the region, who use the company for forage and arable crop services.
